You should definitely enjoy your holiday in Croatia if you stay in a villa in Brela. This is in an ideal location between Split and the Makarska Riviera. Firstly when you arrive by plane at Split airport it is an easy drive down the coast along the main road. South of Split you go through Omis. This is a spectacular town situated on the mouth of the River Cetina; if you follow the River inland for about 15 minutes, you come to Radmanove Mlinice, which has a very well organised adventure centre which arranges rafting, canoeing, biking and trekking. The centre of Omis has a good selection of bars, shops and restaurants sprinkled amongst narrow, paved streets; along the sea front is a stretch of sandy beach several hundred metres long. A bit further down the coast, only 15 minutes from your Brela villa, is the little village of Mimice, which has several good restaurants and a bar by the sea. Nearby at Mala Luka is a beautiful protected cove, ideal for sunbathing and swimming.

When you are staying in your villa in Brela, you will probably want to spend much of the time enjoying the local area. The village of Brela is one of the most attractive spots on the whole coastline between Split and Dubrovnik; old stone houses are interspersed with modern holiday homes, set amongst subtropical vegetation and pine forest sloping steeply down to the beach. There are several restaurants, most notably Punta Rata. From your Brela villa, you can also drive into the Biokovo National Park which rises quite sharply up not far from the coast and forms a dramatic background image as the late afternoon sun reflects off it stark grey sides; this is exciting but also demanding hiking country.

Obviously you will need to hire a car if you stay in a Brela villa, so that you can make the most of the area. Just south of you, there are some quite lively spots along the Makarska Riviera, if you want to go out in the evening. You can also take your car over on the ferry to Sumartin on the island of Brac from Makarska for a day’s trip. To rent a villa in Brela is really an ideal place to enjoy the very best of the Adriatic Coast.
