To get to your Makarska apartment it is a relatively easy drive from Split. Once you have picked up your hire car it is about 1 hour 45 minutes. One village you could rent a Makarska apartment in would be Bratus. This is a delightful spot at the foot of the Biokovo mountains. Here you find stone villages dotted on the steep slopes of of the mountainside alongside olive groves and vineyards. There is a lovely pebble beach which has a marina with a restaurant, as well as a beachside café. The village of Bratus itself has shops, a fruit and vegetable market plus several restaurants and bars.

If you stay around this part of the coast, the centre of attraction is Makarska Town. Here you can stroll along the promenade and choose one of many restaurants or bars from which you can enjoy the sea views. For a day out you can also catch the ferry from Makarska that crosses over to Sumartin on Hvar Island, and from there it is a short drive to the famous Golden Cape beach at Bol.

When you stay in a Makarska apartment you get the best of all worlds. If you enjoy hiking and spectacular mountain scenery, you can go up to the National Park of Biokovo and be rewarded after some hard climbing with spectacular views down to the glorious coast. Only if you are an experienced hiker should you attempt to get to the summit at Sveti Jure, which at 1762m is the second highest point in Croatia. You can also easily go from your Makarska apartment to Omis and from here drive a short distance along the River Cetina until you get to an activity centre from which you can have great fun canoeing and rafting – picnic lunches are also available afterwards. Alternatively on the coast along the Makarska Riviera there are some lovely pebble beaches near to your Makarska apartment ideal for swimming and sunbathing, as well as being quite safe for children; for this you should go to Baska Voda, Brela or Bratus. These places are relatively quiet, but for nightlife and a centre buzzing with atmosphere which will go on quite late into the night, Makarska Town has plenty to keep you going.

If you stay in a Makarska apartment you can have a wonderful time, with all the ingredients for the perfect family holiday.
