To rent a villa in Trogir is one of the best ways to have a great holiday on the Adriatic coast. A Trogir villa allows you firstly to spend some time in the fantastic of Trogir itself. This is a beautiful little town set on a small island between the mainland and a larger island, to both of which it is linked by bridges. It was founded by the Greeks during the 3rd Century BC. The old town is not large. Its entire circumference can probably be walked in less than half an hour. Central clusters of houses, towers, battlements and public buildings are surrounded by a wide skirt of quayside, partly lined by trees, and for most of the way round it is ringed with moored boats. Inside the old town there are many boutiques, bars and restaurants, as well as some wonderful buildings in the warren of paved streets. The cathedral is reputed to be one of the finest in the Adriatic.
From your Trogir villa it is a short drive in to the centre of Split. Here you must visit Diocletian’s Palace. Born in Dalmatia, the son of slaves, Diocletian nevertheless rose through the Roman army to become Emperor. He planned this huge palace as his retirement home. It took 10 years to complete, covered 7.5 acres and is the largest Roman edifice in eastern Europe. In 614 AD, having fallen into disuse, it was occupied by refugees who then remodelled the palace for their own use. A town was built within its walls whose streets are now lined with boutiques, bars and a few restaurants. The poor of Split whose apartments are lodged in its walls, now hang their washing from the Emperor’s windows. If you fo to Split, you can also go down to the port area and jump on a ferry that run regular services to the Islands of Brac, Hvar, Solta and Vis.
Near to your Trogir villa you can go to the interesting Roman ruins at Salona, or take a short ride on a ferry to swim on the beaches of Mali Drevenik. About 20 minutes from your Trogir villa is the beautiful old town of Primosten – it is full of charming old houses, little pebble beaches, and good restaurants serving local specialities. About another 30 minutes up the coast from here, is an area that you must visit from your villa in Trogir. This is the Krka National Park and it is worth spending a full day here to enjoy the fantastic scenery and fabulous waterfalls and streams.
